Wilmington Trust has introduced an added layer of security to the wilmingtontrust.com website to help prevent phishing attacks, which involve fake websites designed to steal your personal information. Wilmington Trust currently employs several methods of ensuring the safety and security of your accounts and personal information, but most are not visible to users. With this latest security measure, Wilmington Trust is providing a visual cue to assure you that you are using the authentic wilmingtontrust.com site.
This new security measure, pictured below, will visually assure clients using Microsoft® Internet Explorer 7.0 and above as well as Firefox 3 browsers and above that they are within the legitimate wilmingtontrust.com website by displaying a green bar in the browser with the correct wilmingtontrust.com URL. The green bar where www.wilmingtontrust.com appears indicates that the site has passed additional authenticity validation and is the genuine Wilmington Trust website. If the website that you are on is identified as a known phishing site, or has another validation error, the address bar where the website address appears will turn a shade of red to warn you not to enter your information.
The "https" protocol at the beginning of the web address in the address bar indicates that you are using a secure communication over the internet. This protocol is a combination of the standard Hypertext Transfer Protocol (http) with the security component SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). A padlock is also present to indicate a secure connection. The https protocol is utilized on all pages displaying your sensitive customer information.
